Testing Day Details


The Written Test will be on Friday, September 15th starting with registration at 8:00am. Lunch will be provided.
If you have already taken the written test for your module, you will disregard this information.

The Hands-On Test will be on Saturday, September 16th.
Please pay close attention to the following guidelines for the days of testing:

  • On Saturday, check-in time is 7:15am. Lunch will be provided as will beverages and snacks.
  • You should come dressed in appropriate work clothes (long pants and shirts with sleeves) and hard-soled boots. No shorts, tennis shoes, or clothing with company logos.
    You will not be permitted to take the test without proper work attire.
  • You should bring a 15' tape measure, pocket calculator, and a pencil with an eraser. A hammer and tool apron are also suggested, though not required. We will provide all essential tools needed to complete the problems at the test site, but if you would like to bring your own, you are welcome to do so.
  • Spanish language translations of tests will be made available upon request.
  • Please notify WALP if you require special accommodations during the Certification-Exam.
  • You must bring a current photo Id to be admitted to the test.
  • Alcohol or drug use is strictly prohibited at the Certification test site. If a candidate is found to be using drugs or alcohol, you will be immediately disqualified and asked to leave the testing site.
  • Cheating during the test is strictly prohibited. If a candidate is found to be cheating, you will be immediately disqualified and asked to leave the testing site. 

There will be an optional candidate orientation on Friday, September 16th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. This session is to familiarize candidates with the test site, equipment and procedures only. You will not be permitted to operate any of the equipment, but may review any operational manuals that are provided. It is not a class on how to take the Certification test. Is is not a substitute for field experience, working with the training manual or Certification related technical training. The Certification Committee will be available for questions.

Landscape Industry Certified Manager

The Landscape Industry Certified Manager Exam is a 4-hour multiple choice format test covering business management topics.

Who should take the Landscape Industry Certified Manager exam?
Interior and exterior landscape company owners and managers who want to establish themselves (and their company) as a leader in the industry.

Each September, WALP offers the Certified Landscape Manager test. For information on the next Landscape Industry Certified Manager test being offered by WALP, contact the WALP Office or call (206) 209-5285.

The Landscape Industry Certified Manager certification exam is also available as a computer-based exam in a network of testing centers nationwide or can be proctored by the WALP Certification Administrator.

Landscape Industry Certified Technician

This exam is a combination hands-on field test and written exam. Candidates choose to test in Installation, Maintenance, or Irrigation.

Who should take this exam?
Any exterior technician who wants to establish credentials by meeting international standards for safe and effective operation of machinery and demonstrating a thorough understanding of all facets of the position. For the best chance of success, National Association of Landscape Professionals recommends that candidates have:

  • 4,000 hours of work in the landscape industry, or
  • 2,000 hours in the landscape industry, plus the completion of a 2 or 4 year curriculum in a landscape major, or
  • 1,000 hours in the landscape industry, plus the completion of a 2 or 4 year curriculum in a landscape major that included completing an internship in the field.

National Association of Landscape Professionals also offers additional designation programs.
